ESSENTIAL PACKING TIPS FROM GLOBAL GENTLE MOVERS
If you have already moved from one place to another at least once, then you probably know what it is like to nervously count the boxes, cry over a broken vase and lose your favorite items. We would like to share a couple of tips that will help you transport everything safe and sound and avoid unpleasant losses.
- Reliable boxes, tape, and packing plan
Prepare the boxes in which you will transport your belongings. Make sure you know the correct way of assembling the boxes. It is essential that the boxes are reliable. You can watch our video to make sure you tape the box properly. It is necessary to start packing with the preparation of boxes because the success of the move directly depends on how well your things will be packed. You should buy reliable boxes of the right size. You will also need a shrink and bubble wrap, and a lot of tape.
After you have prepared the boxes and related tools, you should think about drawing up a packaging plant. Decide in advance where you will put already packed boxes so that they do not interfere with the packing of the rest.
Please note that the boxes should not be heavily loaded. The average weight of each should be 45 lbs so that the movers could easily transfer them from the apartment to the truck and back. Also, the fewer things lie on top of each other, the less you will worry about their safety.
- List of things and labeling the boxes
Label all the boxes so you know what is inside. When you arrive at a new apartment and put a couple of dozen identical boxes on the floor, it is very difficult to find out where everything is. Maybe you are not planning to start unpacking right after the move, and you just needed a kettle and a couple of mugs to drink coffee and get some rest. Therefore, we recommend labeling the boxes with different colors. For example, mark the boxes with things from the bedroom in green, from the kitchen – yellow, from the bathroom – blue, from the living room – purple. This will make it much easier to find things in a new place.
You can also stick a sheet of paper on each box with a list of everything that is in it. So that the sheets do not go anywhere, attach them, completely gluing the surface with tape. Marking is a time-consuming process, but well worth your time. And if you also number each box, it will be much easier to calculate whether you have unloaded everything.
Note: you can find sticker templates for boxes of different sizes on the Internet. Download them, print them and attach them to the container. Just a couple of movements, but you no longer have to spend hours in search of, for example, a TV remote control or a computer mouse.
- Loading the most valuable
Take the box with documents and valuables next to you. A separate box should be allocated for valuable things and documents. Do not put it in a truck with others, it is better to carry it next to you and do not trust anyone else.
- Don’t forget the essentials box
The essentials box is needed, if you are going to a new apartment late at night, and you are going to unload your belongings only in the morning. Put bedding, change of clothes, toiletries in it. If you still want to unpack everything immediately after the move, add tools to the essentials. Label the box “Load last, open first” so it doesn’t get lost among others.
